Langford’s Simmentals
Langford’s Simmentals have been breeding registered Simmental cattle since 1998 and owners, Lou and Linda Langford were involved in the commercial cattle segment for many years before then. They were attracted to Simmental for a number of reasons, but the predominate one was the added pounds the breed brought to their operation.
Today their purebred breeding program is one built on proven bloodlines and all cattle are bred by AI. Bloodlines that can be found in the herd include Burns Bull X339U, Big Sky, Boz Wrangler, MV Red Light, War Nitro and several other notable sires. They also utilize embryo transfer and have worked to raise the level of quality in their herd with flushes in female that meet their criteria.
“When these established lines are bred to some of the new lines on the market the growth and the performance is still there. Plus I strive to keep favorable dispositions as part of our overall program,” he ex-plains.
The Langfords, because of their commercial cattle background are very in tune with consumer demands and pay attention to the traits that translate to carcass. They have built their female base with deep bodied individuals that bring muscle to their calf crop.
They have utilized the show ring in the past as part of their ranch promotion and in 2004 exhibited the State Fair of Texas Cham-pion Simmental Bull.
They market their cattle through select consignment sales and have developed a strong private treaty market. In recent years, they have bred some select heifers to Angus bulls to meet the customers’ de-mands for SimAngus lines.
Lou currently serves as the vice-president of the Texas Simmental/Sim-brah Association and the East Texas Simmental/ Simbrah Association.
Langford’s Simmentals is located in northeast Texas, just about an hour east of Dallas, Texas in Royse City and they would love to have you stop by and view their purebred Simmental operation.
