John E. Dudley named TBA Beef Booster of the Year for 2007

John E. Dudley of Comanche, Texas, Hereford breeder, commercial cattleman and industry leader was recently named as the Texas Brahman Association’s Beef Booster of the Year.  Since 1962, during the Texas Brahman Association’s Annual Meeting, a deserving person or entity is recognized for outstanding contributions to the beef industry.  TBA President Arnold Saunders of Devine, said “John Dudley has spent a life time holding various volunteer leadership positions within the industry and has made significant contributions to our industry and it is only fitting that the Texas Brahman Association recognize him for a life time of achievement in service to our industry.”

John E. Dudley is a partner in Dudley Brothers Ltd Ranches, a registered and commercial Hereford operation in Comanche and Runnels counties of Texas.  Dudley was born in 1944 and holds a BS from Trinity University and is a graduate of the American Graduate School of International Management at Phoenix, Arizona.  John received a commission in the United States Naval Reserves in 1968 and served on active duty from 1968-1972 before returning to the family ranch operation.

Since 1978 John Dudley has been a director of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and served as President of the 15,000 member strong organization from 2001-to 2003.  Dudley served on the Board of the National Cattleman’s Association from 1986-1987 and on the Board of NCBA from 1997-2004 and served on its Executive committee.  He currently serves NCBA as Chairman of its Advertising Committee for 2005-2007.

John served on the Texas Beef Council from 1998 to 2004 and was its Chairman in 2003.  John served the American Hereford Association as a Director from 1991-1997 and is also a past President of the Texas Hereford Association.

Dudley currently serves on the Texas State University Board of Re-gent and as a Director of the Southwestern Expo-sition and Livestock Show, as director of the TSCRA Foundation, director of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association, director of Comanche National Bank and is also the Comanche County Roundup Chairman for the West Texas Rehabilitation Center.  John serves several other outfits as a member and a director and is a member of St Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Comanche where he is a long time lay reader.

John Dudley, married over his head when he married Virginia “Ginger” Gardner and together they had two sons, Gardner H. Dudley of Houston and Jackson A. Dudley, deceased.

Sartwelle, Jr., Brahman breeder from Sealy, Texas who made the actual presentation during the Texas A & M Beef Cattle Short Course on August 6th during the 53rd Annual Beef Cattle Short Course at Texas A & M said  “John Dudley has worked tirelessly for our industry and we are better because of his knowledge, his dedication, and his willingness to give of himself to serve others.  I know that John Dudley would say that he has been able to do all of this because of others in their organization who took up the slack when he was doing all of the above.”

The Texas Brahman Association initiated its “Beef Booster of the Year” award in 1962 and counts a distinguished list of industry leaders, doers, and thinkers among its recipients.
