Forth Worth, TX - Bob Gayle, Goliad County, was a recipient and attended the “Man of the Year in Texas Agriculture” banquet held at the Doral Tesoro, Fort Worth, TX during the 2006 Texas County Agricultural Agents Association An-nual Meeting. He represented District 11 which consists of the 18 counties of the coastal bend of Texas from Corpus Christi to Washington Co. Gayle received the award for his continuous dedication to agriculture. Gayle is a full-time beef and livestock producer, farmer, and is involved in many Exten-sion and other ag-related organizations, such as: the Tri-County Commercial Female Sale Steering Committee; serves on various committees with Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association; served on the Board of Directors for Capital Farm Credit; served as the Agriculture Inspector for 1st Victoria National Bank; has been involved in all facets of the livestock sale barn industry; and is currently president of the board of trustees for the Goliad Independent School District while serving on the Region III committee for Superinten-dents. Gayle has been a staunch supporter of Texas Cooperative Extension for many years not only in the county but South Texas as well. He has provided his land for demonstrations and field days for many years, for example. Gayle is an advocate for youth development and has supported area youth by donating to local fundraisers, purchasing animal projects at livestock show auctions, and serving as a commercial heifer judge at area livestock shows.
Gayle noted during the banquet that he strives to educate beef producers on production, management and marketing practices for them to remain profitable. He chaired the 1st Annual Tri-County Commercial Female Sale in 2005 and was an overseer of 520 head consigned in this year’s sale. $125,000 was added to the pockets of area producers this year alone and these are added dollars being invested and spent in the Tri Co. area of Bee, Goliad and Refugio counties. The gross receipts from the two sales to date are over a million dollars. Gayle and his family were also recognized for their endeavor into an agribusiness venture called AgMed Supply LLC., which started from him purchasing wholesale vaccines for his personal cow/calf and feedlot operations, turning into a retail outlet. Last year the business expanded with a brand new 10,000 square foot facility, offering farm and ranch supplies, feed and gifts. Many times agriculture is under appreciated in terms of economic development. This agribusiness has truly benefit Goliad County’s rural economy, and will continue to be an asset to South Texas farmers and ranchers for years to come. Also in attendance at the banquet was Gayle’s wife Bridgette, daughter Michelle Reitz and Paul Reitz, grandsons Hayden and Neilon Reitz, and granddaughter Madelyn Reitz; daughter Leslie Moeller and Trey Moeller; son Robert Gayle; and daughter Ellaine Gayle.
