The “Common Aquatic Vegetation Management Mistakes” webinar will be held June 29. The online event is designed for landowners, farmers and ranchers with ponds or livestock tanks on their land.

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service event will run from noon to 1 p.m. on the Microsoft Teams platform. The Bexar County Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee is cohosting the event.

The cost is $10, and advance registration is required to sarah.nichols@ag.tamu.edu or by calling the AgriLife Extension office in Bexar County at 210-631-0428.

One Texas Department of Agriculture general continuing education unit will be offered.

Expert speaker, information

The featured speaker is Brittany Chesser, AgriLife Extension aquatic vegetation program specialist in the Department of Rangeland, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, Bryan-College Station.

The webinar will address common mistakes that are made when mechanically, biologically or chemically managing algae or aquatic plants, which can negatively impact a pond’s ecosystem or result in ineffective treatment.

“In my role as the statewide specialist, I deal with a wide variety of clientele and aquatic vegetation species that have become problematic,” Chesser said. “However, there are several common mistakes regarding management that I repeatedly see made by landowners.”

Management of aquatic vegetation species varies greatly from terrestrial plant management and has many unique considerations including water chemistry and water flow, she said.

Chesser will also cover the issues surrounding over treating, under treating and unrealistic management expectations.
