New Excenel RTU EZ Approved For Cattle By FDA

published: July 30th 2008

NEW YORK (July 30, 2008) – The FDA recently approved new EXCENEL® RTU EZ (ceftiofur hydrochloride) Sterile Suspension to treat bovine respiratory disease (BRD) and foot rot. Studies show EXCENEL RTU EZ is significantly more syringeable when compared to EXCENEL RTU.1

“With this new formulation, producers will get the same performance using the same low dose as EXCENEL RTU, but will find it much easier to administer,” said Greg Quakenbush, DVM, director of Beef Veterinary Operations with Pfizer Animal Health. “This improved syringeability, along with the ready-to-use packaging, flexible dosing and short three-day meat withdrawal, makes EXCENEL RTU EZ adaptable enough to include in many management and treatment programs.”

EXCENEL RTU EZ can be used for subcutaneous administrations, requires no refrigeration or reconstitution and can be administered daily or every other day. The product establishes therapeutic concentrations in as little as one hour and reduces fever without suppressing appetite, so cattle stay on feed and keep gaining weight .

For best syringeability, EXCENEL RTU EZ can be administered with a pistol-grip or similar syringe that has been sterilized and cleaned according to normal care procedures. For full prescribing information, visit EXCENELRTUEZ.com.
As with all drugs, EXCENEL RTU EZ should not be used in animals found to be hypersensitive to the product. EXCENEL RTU EZ has a pre-slaughter withdrawal period of 3 days .
