Beller Feedlot recently participated in a free chute-side ultrasound demonstration offered by The National CUP Lab (CUP). Based on CUP’s new exclusive ultrasound software sorting tool, Terry and Mike Beller entered a group of 62 steers in the Angus Source Carcass Challenge. The pen achieved 80.6% Certified Angus Beef® or Prime, topping all others who entered the contest for the 2nd quarter of 2008. “We were pleased with the accuracy (of the software) at predicting Quality and Yield Grade. It’s a tool that can help realize maximum profit potential by getting the right cattle into the right grid market,” says Mike Beller of Lindsay, NE. The new software, called UICS, can sort cattle into outcome groups just prior to harvest, or project the optimal number of days an animal should be fed by scanning at re-implant time. The National CUP Lab will continue to offer free demonstrations to any Midwestern feedlot interested in the technology. For more information, call 515-232-9442 or email: cuplab@cuplab.com.
