Strong demand for US beef across the world is one reason cattle prices are staying strong.
Robert Fountain with the Beef Checkoff says we are sending many of our beef products into Mexico, Europe and Southeast Asia.
Fountain says many of our high end cuts are moving overseas into countries such as Korea and Japan.
He says the Japenese and Koreans are wanting to spend their money on higher quality food.
"The higher dollar, what we in this country refer to as the white table cloth, restaurant cuts. The big steaks, the high quality steaks. In those markets that product has tremendous demand and that's what we can move alot of because we are recognized as the best source of those types of quality cuts in the world. They can find those cuts, but they can't find the same quality as US beef."
Fountain says domestic demand is tied to the economy. He says as our economy continues to improve those cuts will become in higher demand here at home.
