Schwertner receives Texas A&M AgriLife Distinguished Texan in Agriculture Award

COLLEGE STATION – Jim Schwertner has received the Texas A&M AgriLife Distinguished Texan in Agriculture Award.

 

 

 

Schwertner received the honor at the 64th Texas A&M Beef Cattle Short Course at Texas A&M University in College Station.

The award recognizes and honors the efforts of Texans who have gained unique distinction for their outstanding leadership, contributions and achievement on behalf of the Texas agricultural industry.

“Jim Schwertner exemplifies what a Distinguished Texan in Agriculture represents, which is an individual who demonstrates both outstanding leadership, provides significant contributions in Texas agriculture and one who gives back through community service,” said Dr. Patrick Stover, vice chancellor and dean for agriculture and life sciences at Texas A&M University in College Station. “We are extremely pleased to recognize Jim for his long-lasting impact on Texas agriculture.”

Since its inception, 27 individuals have been recognized as Distinguished Texans in Agriculture. 

Schwertner served on the Texas A&M University Board of Regents from 2009-2015. He is president and CEO of Schwertner Farms Inc. and Capitol Land & Livestock Trucks. He is also chairman of the board of Schwertner State Bank, past chairman of the board for Cattleman’s State Bank and past director of Wells Fargo Bank in Austin. He is a partner in Mid-Tex Livestock Market and Lockhart Livestock Market.
