(04/19/22) BOSSIER CITY, La. — The LSU AgCenter will hold its annual Northwest Region Beef and Forage Field Day April 28 at the Red River Research Station in Bossier City.

The field day will cover multiple topics, including:

— Cattle market update and outlook.

— Managing fertilizer costs.

— Forage options for the cattle producer.

— Weed control options and updates.

— Cattle identification solutions and recordkeeping.

Lunch will be offered along with a Master Farmer program and administrative updates, followed by a producer panel discussing marketing beef directly.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the program beginning at 9:00 a.m. Four hours of veterinary continuing education units will be available. The Red River Research Station is located at 262 Research Station Drive in Bossier City.

AgCenter extension livestock agent Lee Faulk said that he hopes the field day will be beneficial to an industry currently facing challenges.

“Record high input prices are impacting cattle producers significantly,” he said. “We hope to use this field day to focus on ways producers can better manage input costs and maximize the value of their calf crop.”

Tara Smith, LSU AgCenter Central Region director, also addressed the current need for the most up-to-date information for cattle producers.

“The Northwest Region Beef and Forage Field Day is a signature event in the region,” she said. “We are looking forward to providing an informative experience for our clientele.”

Event coordinators ask attendees who intend to have lunch to RSVP by April 21 by contacting Donna Haynes at
