New SGBI Board of Directors elected, annual meeting rescheduled

KINSGVILLE, Texas – Santa Gertrudis Breeders International (SGBI) me-mbers elected five new members to serve on the board of directors. Each candidate will serve a term on the 18-member board and will work on behalf of SGBI members to advance the association’s mission.
    Nancy Wunderlich, Brenham, Texas, was elected president. Wunderlich and her husband, Terry, own and operate Wunder-lich Farms, where they raise commercial and purebred Santa Gertrudis. Wunderlich has been actively involved with the Santa Gertrudis breed and SGBI for nearly three decades. As SGBI president, her years of committee and board involvement, and her familiarity with the association, the cattle and perhaps most important, the people, will be valuable assets.
    “It is an honor to serve as president of SGBI,” Wunderlich says. “Our future is bright, and I look forward to keeping that going.”
    Wunderlich will be the first president to work with new SGBI Executive Director Webb Fields and says she’s excited to work alongside Fields to keep the breed and association moving in a positive direction.
    “He is a very talented individual who is well versed beyond his years,” Wunderlich says. “Our future is bright, and I look forward to keeping that going and working with him.”
    The following individuals were also elected to serve on the board: Suzanne Fulton, Denton, Texas; Michael Seay, Castle Rock, Colorado; Trai Ste-gall, Pontotoc, Mississippi; Ricky Cleveland, Oneonta, Alabama; and Nolan Taylor, Leitchfield, Ken-tucky.
    Others serving on the SGBI Board of Directors as officers include: Secre-tary/Treasurer Debbie Townsend, Louise, Texas; Vice President of Long Range Planning Alicia Sanchez, Belen, New Mexico, Vice President of Breed Improvement Ka-thryn Hefte, Hondo, Texas; Vice President of Market-ing and Promotion Erik Wiley, Deville, Louisiana; Vice President of Mem-bership Tony Creech, Zebulon, North Carolina; and President-Elect Gene Kubecka, Bay City, Texas.
    The following individuals also serve as directors on the association’s board: Craig Lopossa, City, In-diana; David Alderson, Williamsport, Tennessee; Cody Mattingly, Branden-burg, Kentucky; Tylor Braden, Kingsville, Texas; Rafael Miranda, Sedalia, Colorado; and Jamie Daniel, Magnolia, Arkan-sas.
    Completing terms on the SGBI Board were retiring president Jerome Urbanosky, Plantersville, Texas; and directors Betty McCormick, Brookshire, Texas; Bud Clark, DeSoto, Missouri; Arlin Taylor, Hanceville, Alabama; and Todd Osborne, Lathrop, Missouri.
    After making the difficult decision to postpone its annual meeting in April due to COVID-19, the SGBI Board of Directors has announced plans to host the meeting Oct. 1, 2020, at Stone Bridge Farms, an event venue in Cullman, Alabama During the one-day event, SGBI members will conduct association business, recognize year-end winners and honor the well-deserved Hall of Fame inductees.
