Hill Country Cattlemen’s Conference set Oct. 16

SAN SABA — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will be holding the Hill Country Cattlemen’s Conference on Oct. 16. 

The multi-county event will begin at 9 a.m. at the Jordan Cattle Auction Arena at 1310 W. U.S. Highway 190 in San Saba. Registration will start at 8:30 a.m.

The AgriLife Extension offices of Mills, San Saba, Llano, Mason, Burnet and Lampasas counties are hosting the event. A noon meal will be served.

The cost is $20; an RSVP is required by Oct. 11 to the AgriLife Extension office in Mills County at 325-648-2650.

“We’re excited to be able to present this conference to our community,” said Neal Alexander, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for San Saba County. “We encourage everyone in our area who works with cattle to come out for this event.”

“This will be a great event for cattlemen,” said Tom Guthrie, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Mills County. “We encourage everyone to come out to listen to our experts, ask questions and learn about the latest industry news.”

Topics and speakers will include:

  • Animal health updates – Ken Jordan, owner Jordan Cattle Auction, San Saba.
  • Stocker panel –  Jordan; Brent Wagner, order buyer for Pete Scarmardo Cattle Co. and Caviness Beef Packer, Goldthwaite; and Tommy Durst, owner Durst Cattle Co., Mason.
  • Bull selection – Jamie Osbourn, AgriLife Extension agent for Llano County; Micah Walker, AgriLife Extension agent for Mason County.
  • Reproductive health –  Charles Key, D.V.M., San Saba.
