Central Texas hay production workshop set Oct. 17

BURNET — The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will hold a Central Texas hay production workshop on Oct. 17 in Burnet. 

The workshop will be at the AgriLife Extension office of Burnet County, 607 N. Vandeveer St., Suite 100. RSVP by Oct. 10 to 512-756-5463. 

The cost is $30. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the program starts at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon.

There will be five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units available: two general, one integrated pest management, one drift minimization and one laws and regulations.

“This is an annual workshop,  and each year we aim to bring folks the latest news from the top experts,” said Kelly Tarla, AgriLife Extension agent for Burnet County. “We have AgriLife Extension specialists from across the state coming to Central Texas for the hay production workshop this year, and we hope everyone will join us.”

Topics  and speakers include:

  • How Herbicides Work – Scott Nolte, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension state weed specialist, College Station.
  • Rainfall Insurance – Bill Thompson, AgriLife Extension economist, San Angelo. 
  • King Ranch Bluestem Biology and Control – Megan Clayton, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension range specialist, Corpus Christi.
  • Sprayer Calibration – James Jackson, AgriLife Extension range management specialist, Stephenville.
  • Corteva Product Update – Dillon DeMuth, Corteva Representative, Georgetown.
  • Herbicide Update – Tarla and Heath Lusty, AgriLife Extension agent for Lampasas County.
