Central Texas Cow-Calf Clinic set Jan. 6 in Cameron

The annual 
Central Texas Cow-Calf Clinic will take place Jan. 6 at the Milam County Youth Exposition Building, 301 S. Houston Ave, Cameron. The event, a staple for Williamson and Milam counties’ ranchers, is in its 41st year.

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service event runs 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Cost is $20, payable at the door. Lunch is compliments of the Milam County Junior Livestock Association.

Registration is requested by Jan. 3 by calling 254-605-0226 in Williamson County or 254-697-7045 in Milam County. Onsite registration will start at 7:30 a.m. the day of the event.

Two Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units are offered for private applicator license and certificate holders– one general and one integrated pest management.

Cow-Calf Clinic topics

Scheduled topics and speakers are:

  • Cattle Market Update, Jason Johnson, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension economist, Stephenville.
  • Nutrition and Balanced Rations, Henry Hilscher, Ph.D., Livestock Nutrition Center nutritionist, Cameron.
  • Producer and Co-op Processing Facilities, Jade Cooper, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension meat specialist, Bryan-College Station.
  • Visual Indicators of Cattle Health, Jason Cleere, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension beef cattle specialist, Bryan-College Station.
  • Herbicides and Weed Identification, Barron Rector, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension range specialist, Bryan-College Station.

A special competition open to all attendees will be the Body Condition Score Contest, featuring cash prizes awarded to the top three contestants.

The clinic also features an industry trade show with vendors who will provide event specials and door prizes.
