Annual farm and ranch seminar set for Dec. 10th

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is offering a multi-county farm and ranch virtual seminar on Dec. 10 from 7:30 a.m.- 4 p.m.“The agency’s District 8 has delivered this excellent opportunity for many years, and now that it is online we’re proud to be able to offer it to other Texans as well,” said Brent Batchelor, AgriLife Extension regional program leader, Stephenville. “If producers are in need of continuing education hours, this is also a great opportunity to get them.”

The registration fee is $50 and participants must register online by 5 p.m. on Dec. 9. There will be eight Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units available — three general, two integrated pest management, two laws and regulations, and one drift minimization.

Licensed commercial and non-commercial applicators will be able to obtain their required five hours for annual recertification within the first five hours of the program, said Batchelor.

Topics and speakers include:

• General Herbicide and Pesticide Update – James Jackson, Alligare range and pasture specialist, Stephenville.
• Laws and Regulations Update, Complaints Process – Perry Cervantes, Texas Department of Agriculture coordinator for pesticide certification and compliance, Austin.
• Pond Management and Weed Control – Brittany Chesser, AgriLife Extensionprogram specialist aquatic vegetation management, Bryan-College Station.
• General Laws and Regulations Compliance – Don Renchie, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension program leader and pesticide safety education program coordinator–agricultural and environmental safety, Bryan-College Station.
• Horn Fly Control Methods and Hot Topics in IPM – Sonja Swiger, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension entomologist, Stephenville.
• Plant Pathology in Row Crops – Tom Isakeit, AgriLife Extension plant pathologist, Bryan-College Station.
• Drift Management and Sprayer Calibration – Matt Matocha, AgriLife Extension row crop and pasture weed specialist, Bryan-College Station.
• Combating Common Pest and Disease in Trees – Rachel McGregor, Texas A&M Forestry Service staff forester, Granbury.
