Just Your Standard Bull-Nov. 25, 2022

Fall bull sales for November have been exceptional. Since my last column, we have seen several thousand bulls sell at a pace that is near and sometimes better than the prices we saw back in 2014 and 2015, when calf prices reached all-time highs. Back on Oct. 12^th, we witnessed 459 bulls sell at the RA Brown Ranch for an average of $7,954.  This past week, we sold 252 Brangus bulls that averaged $8,041 and 22 Charolais bulls that averaged $5,580 at the Cavender-Draggin’ M and Partners sale.

            Sandwiched in between have been some phenomenal sales as well. Since the RA Brown sale, I have personally made it to Bo Herndon’s in Lyons, Georgia; from there to the Phillips Ranch – Fenco Farms sale in Bunnell, Florida; to the Southern Cattle Company Sale in Marianna, Florida; on to the Branch Ranch Bull Sale in Mansfield, Louisiana; to the American Cattle Enterprises Brangus & Santa Gertrudis Bull & Female sale in Oneonta, Alabama. ALL were tremendous sales!

            In the meantime, my beloved Aggies have gone through sixstraight losses from Oct. 1 though Nov. 12 and stumbled through an ugly victory last week over the U Mass Minute Men. To go from a preseason ranking of 6^th in the nation, to a current 4-7 record, well there are no words.

            Meanwhile, my 7-3 Dallas Cowboys go and lay an egg last week at 4-7 Green Bay, only to go to 8-2 Minnesota and boat race the Vikings this weekend 40-3. I can’t figure out what Dallas is right now.

            So, for Thanksgiving, Dallas plays the Giants, and A&M plays LSU on Saturday. My pledge is to take more pleasure from being with friends and family and enjoying some great food. So no matter what the Cowboys and Aggies do, I hope all of you had a Happy Thanksgiving!
