I would like to welcome you to the 34th annual San Antonio Stock & Rodeo Special Edition of the Southern Livestock Standard. Our first San Antonio edition was published in 1990. For all you Gen X and Z’s out there, that was before cell phones. And email well in 1989, a company called Quantum Computer Services launches its first instant messaging service. In 1991, that company renames itself America Online, also know as AOL. It wasn’t until 1993 that AOL started mailing compact disks to homes to help get them online. And who remembers this? It was 2001 when AOL merged with Time Warner to form the media giant AOL Time Warner.
When we published our first San Antonio edition, I was 30-years-old. I don’t really care to do the math, but when I was that age, we thought we had seen everything. Certainly, more than our parents or grandparents. But we weren’t thinking about running around with an iPhone in our jeans pocket and we never would have dreamed of watching movies on it!
This edition also marks the 32nd edition where you see a whole section of the paper dedicated to the San Antonio Livestock Show All Breeds Bull and Commercial Female Sale to be held on Feb. 15th. We hope you will join us for what promises to be one of the best events yet. Make plans to join us for the show starting at noon on Feb 14th. And stick around to treat your sweetheart to a barbeque dinner that evening on us and our major sponsor Capital Farm Credit.
If you plan on attending the show and/or sale, please understand that the one constant is change. And parking has changed! We encourage you to contact our office for more details on parking. That number is 210/524-9697.
Back in 1992, we never would have dreamed of having an online component to our sale. Once again, if you cannot attend in person, you can register and bid online with dvauction.com. Please don’t wait until Wednesday morning to register. Call as soon as you can!
So here we are in 2023! Today, you can subscribe for the printed or digital version of Southern Livestock Standard. You can read the printed page or view them digitally at your leisure by phone, tablet or computer. We appreciate your support over these years. It has been an honor to serve you and to help keep you informed in the cattle sector of the livestock industry.
We hope you enjoy the San Antonio Show & Rodeo and can join us Feb. 15th for the sale!
