SAN ANTONIO—George Strait, country music entertainer and south Texas rancher has announced plans for his first Quarter Horse production sale. Dubbed “Strait from the Ranch,” the sale will be held February 13,1999 in conjunction with the 50th Annual San Antonio Livestock Exposition.
Strait singled out a long-standing stock show tradition, The San Antonio Select Quarter Horse Sale, as the vehicle by which to debut his roping and performance horses raised on his ranch near Catarina, Texas.
An avid team roper, Strait’s breeding program has been built around the sire Zan Silver Parr, an AQHA Superior Dally Team Roping Heeling Horse and AQHA Superi-or Dally Team Roping Heading Horse. This 1986 gray stallion also boasts 124 official AQHA points in the three roping events: heading, heeling and calf roping.
Zan Silver Parr is sired by Zan Parr Bar, a 3-time World Champion and All-Time Leading Sire of AQHA World Champion Performance Horses. Zan Silver Parr’s dam, Miss Fort Knox by Dick Sonoita, has 244 AQHA points in four different events and was an AQHA Superior Halter Horse and AQHA Youth Champion.
The sale offering of yearlings, two- and three-year-olds are all sired by Zan Silver Parr and out of daughters or granddaughters of: Mr San Peppy, Freckles Playboy, Peppy San, Doc O’Lena, Colonel Freckles, Doc’s Sug, Cee Bars, Sugar Bars, Doc’s Dee Bar and Rocket Wrangler.
Since Zan Silver Parr does not currently stand at stud to the public and hasn’t for several years, this sale-within-a-sale will be one of the few opportunities to obtain his progeny.
