Executive Director’s Report...

The South Central Texas Independent Cattle-men’s Association (SCTICA) All Breed Bull and Heifer Sale was held two weeks ago in Gonzales. Over 450 females and 80 bulls crossed the auction ring. There were ICA consignors from all over the state. The quality was outstanding as the selection seems to get better every year. Prices were steady to lower as buyers seemed cautious about the weather, the state of the economy, and the cattle market in general. Almost 200 buyers were registered, with quite a few spectators also in attendance. The ICA members from the Gonzales, Guada-Coma, Colorado Valley, South Central Texas and Mid-Tex Chapters did a heck of a job and the sale was smoother than ever. The staff from the City of Gonzales did an excellent job all week and the cowboys in the back did their job well, as usual. Capital Farm Credit was the sale sponsor and was well represented.
It was a hectic week for Brian Malaer, W.R. Low and Brad Cotton, our sale managers, and each one worked their tail off for the event. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief when the last heifer was loaded out Saturday morning (as most buyers were eager to take their cattle home).
Watching our ICA volunteers work tirelessly together is remarkable and it in itself shows that rural folks can get along when so many today across the nation are divided. The fellowship was great, the food delicious, and we’ll do it again next year. THANK YOU EVERYONE!
