Under the direction of Ron Denham, the Cookin’ Cattlemen of the Colorado Valley Independent Cat-tlemen’s Association (CVI CA) cooked and served lunch at the Fayette Co. Commercial Heifer Show and Sale.  The meal was sponsored by CVICA, the Fayette Beef Committee and HEB.

Fall will be quickly upon us and Southeast Texas ICA is getting ready.  Tuesday, Sept. 17 we will have an ICA meeting at the Winnie Community Build-ing in Winnie, Texas featuring a program on winter forages by Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Forage Specialist, Dr. Vanessa Olsen.  Dr. Olsen will discuss winter forage options and hopefully it will dry up enough so we can actually try some of her suggestions.
This should be a really informative meeting and will offer the opportunity for one general CEU pesticide credit.  Bring your pesticide permit or license so you will have the information to get credit for your CEU.
President Billy Kinney is planning on serving hamburgers with trimmings and I’m sure a whole table of desserts will be available as they always are.  We will also have updates on what’s going on at the state level and in the cattle industry in general in light of the fire at the Tyson plant in Kansas.  The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m.

I hope this letter finds everyone doing well.  It has been a long, hot dry spell since we last talked.  We will make it through this and hopefully get some September rains.  We are planning on meeting sometime this fall when it cools off.  The cattle market has taken some ups and downs recently.  The good thing is most everyone has harvested one or more cuttings of hay.
We actually took a couple days off, Aug. 5 and 6th and attended the Texas A&M Beef Cattle Short Course in College Station.  It was a good time for all with informative information.  I would recommend to everyone who hasn’t ever been to make plans to attend next year.
We are planning on having the next chapter meeting at the Lockhart Auction Barn and are currently looking for speakers.  We will let everyone know as soon as they are confirmed with date and time.  Until then, hope everyone stays cool and that we receive some great rainfall.  God Bless America and Texas.
