A Billings, Montana auctioneer has the distinct honor to preside over the first ever livestock auction in Russia.
Joe Goggins took his auctioneer skills all the way to Kaluga, Russia last week to sell American Angus. A Russian company is looking to expand the nation's beef industry.
This inaugural auction sold more than 3000 head of cattle, and Russia is looking to import up to 15,000 more by the end of the year. Goggins said he is proud to be a part of this historic event and sees a bright future for Russian livestock trading.
"It was a real honor to be asked by them because over here you go to sales and it's just another day," he said, "but this was their first sale. They didn't know how to bid, you had to go through it step by step."
Talks are currently underway in Russia to hire young Americans to build ranches and farms resembling American operations in the coming years.
